First leg: onto the Taconic State Parkway or Route 9 south. The rest of the way to Islip: the Taconic or I-684 south, across the Throgs Neck and east on the Long Island Expressway. Expect about 115 mi and 2 hr 8 min – 2 hr 32 min on a normal day; the Long Island Expressway is where the time goes when traffic is heavy.
From Vassar College, HPN is the quickest airport (about 58 min) and ISP is the farthest. You get one fixed price for Vassar College to ISP before you book, tolls included.
Students heading home for break usually leave on the same one or two days, so pickups from Vassar College are tightly scheduled. Tell us the building or dorm, how many bags, and the flight number — we'll take care of the timing to ISP.
With short lines at ISP, a pickup at Vassar College about 4 hr before take-off is normally enough.
Islip's lines are short; the drive out on the Expressway is what needs the cushion. Holiday weekends and Friday afternoons are when we add the most cushion on the Vassar College route.
Take the Hudson Line from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central, then the LIRR toward Ronkonkoma (usually changing at Jamaica) and a shuttle to the terminal — a long day.
Compare that with a car: one seat, your bags in the trunk, 2 hr 8 min – 2 hr 32 min to the curb. Islip's fares and lines can make the longer drive worth it — and with a car service the extra distance is just more time to sit back.
